Everybody likes to save money. Why wouldn’t you? Once you hit 50, the discounts start rolling in, but how do you keep up with all these deals? Luckily, there are several places that have sprung up to do just that.

AARP

Most of us are familiar with AARP. The American Association of Retired Persons is a non-profit that offers many perks of membership ($16 annually, including a suite of discounts.

Their savings split into five categories:

  1. Shopping
  2. Travel
  3. Entertainment & Dining
  4. Financial Services & Insurance
  5. Healthcare & Insurance

All you need to do is to head over to the Member Advantages site, select a category and pick the deal you want.

If you want to check deals on the go, AARP has also developed a mobile application. The application is available on both Apple and Android phones. The deals from AARP are widespread, so check them out if you’re a member!

Mobile Applications

Speaking of mobile apps, there are several independent apps for everyone. If you have an Apple phone, two top applications are Senior Discounts ($.99) and Senior Savings ($.99). On Android phones, Senior Discounts Free is the highest-rated senior discount app in the Google Play store.

Much like AARP’s list, the savings segment into categories. In each of the apps, you can also search by your age, since some discounts have specific age restrictions.

Another application that has been getting some recent press is Sciddy. While the other apps tell you what discounts are available on the list, Sciddy plans to take it a step forward. Using your phone’s GPS, the app will sense what stores are nearby and tell you if discounts are available. It’s still a relatively new app, but one that’s worth keeping an eye on.

Online Lists

Finally, we turn to the internet for the most complete lists of senior discounts. The Senior List and Retired Brain offer several comprehensive and frequently updated lists. While both websites cover other things, their bread and butter are discounts.

What’s nice is they include both AARP and non-AARP deals, so you get a complete look at what deals are available. Retired Brain updates a single list, while the Senior List splits their lists up by year.

Currently, only the Restaurant portion of the 2017 list is published, but the full 2016 and 2015 lists are available.
